Mastering Sustainability

Sustainability is much more than just a buzzword. At Mastermark, we take sustainability with the utmost seriousness, focusing on all three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social and economic. Our commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of our operations. We firmly believe that a sustainable business is not only good for the environment but also for our employees and greater community. We are dedicated to minimising our environmental footprint, fostering social well-being and equity, and maintaining economic viability for the long term.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Environmental sustainability is a core focus, driving our efforts to minimise our ecological footprint and preserve natural resources. Mastering sustainability

Mastermark Sprinkler System
Mastermark's Avian Deterrent Sprinkler System.

Solar-powered Solutions: Mastermark utilises solar-power wherever and whenever possible. Our solar-powered electronic trapping cameras and solar panel-charged sprinkler system harnesses the sun’s energy. This reduces reliance on traditional power sources which minimizes energy consumption. Our sprinkler system sprays water in intervals for a maximum of 3 seconds— ensuring minimal water is used in the process of dispersing the bird.

Waste Reduction & Recycling:  Embracing a circular economy, Mastermark-branded products and packaging utilises recyclable paper materials for products and packaging, and sends e-waste (such as old laptops and monitors) to dedicated recycling facilities. Furthermore, as a wildlife management company, we encounter a significant amount of biowaste. We repurpose this biowaste within our operations to reduce the carbon footprint that incineration would otherwise produce.

Sustainable Transportation: Mastermark operational vehicles are 100% electric, significantly reducing our carbon footprint. Our fleet includes over 15 fully electric vehicles with our own charging stations. In addition to our electric vehicle fleet, we have strategically located both of our functional offices within 350 meters of an MRT station. This proximity to public transportation encourages our employees and clients to opt for public transit instead of car travel.

Biodiversity Conservation: Part of what we do at Mastermark is conducting meticulous wildlife management and monitoring plans, to ensure the safe relocation of wildlife during construction projects, thereby safeguarding both the animals and the human workers involved. Our approach to biodiversity conservation extends beyond just physical relocation. We implement strategies that create safe corridors for wildlife, facilitating their movement and reducing the risk of harm during construction activities reducing the impact of urbanisation on nature and wildlife.

SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY

Social sustainability is just as important as environmental sustainability, creating a work environment that prioritises the well-being of our employees and creates meaningful impact beyond financial gains. Mastering sustainability

Diversity & Inclusion: With a diverse workforce that embraces individuals from all backgrounds — we hire regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or orientation, fostering a more inclusive work environment. We also recruit retirees for re-employment, providing them with opportunities to continue contributing their skills and experience to the workforce. This fosters intergenerational knowledge transfer and supportsthe financial stability and well-being of retirees.

Remote Work: Mastermark employees have the flexibility to work from home, in line with Singapore's new work-from-home initiative. This policy promotes a healthy work-life balance, allowing our team members to manage personal and professional responsibilities more effectively. By reducing daily commutes, we also help decrease traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions.

ICAO Training Course

Continuous Learning: We place a high priority on investing in the education and training of our employees and stakeholders. We believe that continuous learning and skill enhancement are essential for both individual and organisational growth. This enables meaningful contributions to the company and society. We conduct ICAO-certified Airport Wildlife Hazard Management Courses which utilises our proprietary Aerodrome 360 circular framework. This innovative framework ensures streamlined processes and enhances the effectiveness of the training. The Aerodrome 360 framework provides a holistic approach to wildlife hazard management, integrating various aspects of aerodrome operations to ensure a safe and efficient environment.

Crisis Preparedness: Our Business Continuity Plan addresses crisis response and disaster preparedness plans that prioritises the safety and well-being of employees, communities, and other stakeholders. This enhances our social sustainability by reducing vulnerability and promoting collective action in times of need.

ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY

We expanded into wildlife consultancy, which offers expert advice on managing and conserving wildlife, and into wildlife management services, addressing human-animal interactions from birds to crocodiles. We've also developed innovative solutions for wildlife challenges with product development and ventured into animal husbandry, focusing on ethical treatment and welfare. These expansions have stabilised our revenue and ensured long-term business sustainability.
